Apple gets Samsung Galaxy Nexus banned in US
An American judge has ordered Samsung to halt US sales of its Galaxy Nexus smartphone while the court considers Apple's claim the South Korean company infringed iPhone patents.
It was Apple's second victory in a week in a Californian court against Android devices.
In a ruling Friday available online, Judge Lucy Koh says that the Galaxy Nexus won't be sold in the U.S. during the trial.
The same judge ordered Samsung to halt sales of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer earlier this week.
The latest ruling is a blow to Samsung Electronics Co. and Google Inc., which jointly announced the smartphone in October 2011.
Apple Inc. and Samsung have been embroiled in multiple lawsuits in Asia, North America and Europe accusing each other of patent infringement.

With more carriers pushing unlimited calling plans, we can't say there's necessarily a need for the friends and family features of yesteryear on this side of the Atlantic, but plenty of networks beyond the good ole US of A are a bit more stingy when it comes to tallying talk time. The latest Google patent application to be published was filed last December and covers exactly this type of scenario, suggesting that the Google+ profile of the future could include an option to create a "Telco Co. Preferred Calling" circle, which would theoretically enable free calling between yourself and a small group of friends.
According to the application, semi-public information, such as a telephone number, would be shared between Google and a registered service provider, and you would maintain discount calling relationships from within Google+, adding and dropping callers to and from your online contacts list. You could also dictate custom rules, such as ringtones for contacts in specific groups, or create carrier-branded circles that are populated with your friends on the same network, making it easier to determine whether or not you'll be billed for calls to a particular user. Like all patent applications, there's no guarantee that Google's submission with come to fruition, but if you're feeling optimistic, you can hit up the source link below for all the legalese.

Coca-Cola's A011 vending machine keeps drink cool without using (much) power
So maybe that self-chilling soda didn't pan out, but Coca-Cola is working on another method for keeping its beverages cool without using power. In partnership with Fuji Electric Retail Systems, the company has developed the A011 vending machine, which is capable of keeping drinks frosty for up to 16 hours a day without using energy. The A011 works by shifting the cooling process from mid-day, when energy use is higher, to nighttime, when there is a higher power capacity. Even after the machine stops powering the chilling, the unit's temperature only rises slightly, thanks to vacuum insulation and an airtight design. Great in theory, right? Well Coca-Cola Japan will put the product to the test this summer with a two-month pilot program in two of Japan's toastiest areas, Tajimi City in Gifu Prefecture and Kumagaya City in Saitama Prefecture. If things go well, the company will tweak the A011 to extend the amount of time it can go without power. Room-temperature soda is the worst, so here's hoping it works.

There are many types of spreaders available for commercial use. Some of these professional spreaders are similar to non-commercial consumer models. There are a handful of features that professional spreaders can contain that will give superior results when being used for landscaping on large estates. Not all spreaders have all of the features that are available. Understanding which of these options is important for a given job can be important when selecting a unit.
Overall Construction
Professional spreaders are similar to any type of professional power equipment. They must be durable and able to withstand hours of constant use over the course of many years. A good quality model will contain a strong frame and axle that will last for a very long time. The hopper should be made from very strong plastic. Some designs include a metal hopper that can help to distribute some types of seeds or fertilizers more easily.
Multiple Outlets
Having more than one port in the bottom of the hopper to distribute seeds can generate a more consistent broadcast of materials. Single-port units are prone to irregular spreading that can require the operator to make several narrow passes over the same area. Multiple ports on the unit can help to create more complete coverage as the grains fall downward and bounce off of the impeller blades in different locations.
Calibration Mechanisms
Calibrating professional spreaders usually involves the ability to adjust the distances between the ports and the impellers blades and sometimes the drop rate of the ports. This can be an important feature because it allows the operator to adjust the machine before every use so that normal wear and tear does not reduce the effectiveness of the unit.
Multiple Distribution Patterns
Landscapers who are using professional spreaders usually need to distribute several different types and sizes of materials. This can include large pesticide grains to small grass seeds. The best way to help ensure that all materials are distributed evenly and effectively is to look for a unit that has multiple distribution patterns. This is usually adjusted through a plate between the hopper port and the impeller blades. A range of different patterns will increase the usefulness of the spreader, regardless of what material is in the hopper.
Overspray Protection
Some landscapers might want to look for units that have small guards on the side. These guards are designed to stop granules from being tossed too far into the field. This type of overspray protection can create more accurate seeding patterns in narrow areas such as along a tree line or between garden fixtures.

Report: 'Hangover' star Galifianakis engaged

"Hangover" star Zach Galifianakis is reportedly off the market, according to Celebuzz, which obtained a copy of a wedding invite for the Aug. 11 nuptials to his longtime girlfriend Quinn Lundberg.

According to the site, the invites have the standard formalities, including the full names of both bride and groom: Zachary Knight Galifianakis and Mary Quinn Lundberg. But the invites weren't all business; they "included a drawing of himself and his bride-to-be. He made sure he looked like a little troll, while Quinn was a stunning tall blonde princess," Celebuzz reports.
There's no word on when exactly the couple engaged, which is not surprising considering the level of privacy Galifianakis and his girlfriend have aspired to achieve. The couple live far from Hollywood on a farm in North Carolina (referred to as "Farmageddon," in GQ). "We put some barriers up," Zach says. "We're too connected, normally. I mean, I can't believe these comics who, like, Twitter their every thought," he told the magazine.
As for wedding gifts, the couple is not going the Kardashian route, and establishing a registry for more than a hundred thousand dollars in gifts. Instead, Celebuzz reports that "the couple has asked guests to donate to the non-government organization (NGO) Growing Voices, which Lundberg co-founded."
No word on whether there will be a bachelor party.
