Go Gourmet In New York The City's Best Sandwiches

When your business meeting is in the city that never sleeps, chances are, its going to be a busy one! Meetings have been known to run eight hours straight in those New York conference venues with barely enough time for a bathroom break or a bite or two!

But being stuck inside all day shouldnt mean you cant eat well. If sandwiches are all you have time for or all youre allowed for lunch and breaks, then go for the best! Here are the five of the top sandwiches of New York and where to get the best of the best.

Hotdog

Simple, hearty and undoubtedly New York, conference venues delegates all over the city have definitely seen their share of what may be the national sandwich of America. And for good reason: theyre convenient, easy to eat while working, and definitely filling. Grays Papaya on 72nd Street and the one on West 8th Street top the majority of the lists for best hotdog sandwich in the city. Crif Dogs, Asia Dog and the Shake Shack are close runners up, and whats great is they have multiple locations all over the city theres bound to be one near you.

Pastrami

Next to the hot dog, nothing says The Big Apple quite like having a genuine pastrami sandwich in New York. Conference venues all over the city have seen many a productive working lunch over a plate of pastrami sandwiches. Top of the list is the pastrami sandwich from Katz on 205 E Houston st. Busy people will have to miss the best part, which is watching old timers cut the pastrami and make the sandwich, but its alright, the experience of eating it more than makes up for it! Other contenders for best pastrami sandwiches are those at Carnegie Deli (theyre huge, too, a big plus), Zabars, Sarges Deli and Eisenbergs Sandwich Shop. At least one of these locations should be within easy access of your New York conference venues.

Porchetta

When is a pork loin sandwich not just a pork loin sandwich? When its a porchetta: scrumptious chunks of pork impeccably seasoned with herbs and spices, caramelized onions and sea salt, with its juices flowing into soft, warm bread often ciabatta and the bonus crunch of added crackling. Two places tie in most lists as the best place to get this Italian pork wonder: Sara Jenkins Porchetta on 110 E. 7th Street, and Mario Batalis Eataly on 200 Fifth Ave between 23rd and 24th streets. Bonus: for another great pork sandwich to sustain you through hours and hours of meetings try Dale Tades Porky Melt a pork sausage sandwich with melted cheese, from Pork Slope on 247 Fifth Ave.

Burgers

Perhaps the most popular sandwich in America, and mainstay of many a fast food establishment, the humble American burger isnt all that humble when you have it from the best places in New York! Happy meals are never as happy as when theyre from the Shake Shack (try the Shroom Burger, a Portobello mushroom with white cheese on the inside), the Bowery Diner (the Bowery Special has a thick slice of pastrami atop the ground beef patty, so its like a two for one), or from Mile End Sandwich their Breakfast Burger on a Quebecois muffin features a runny egg, apple butter and maple syrup over a veal sausage patty.
